Murphy and Neagle Congratulate Big Pit Staff on Award

Paul Murphy MP and Lynne Neagle AM have sent their congratulations to staff at Big Pit in Blaenavon after they scooped the prestigious Gulbenkian Prize for Museum of the Year.

Paul Murphy said: “I have written to staff at Big Pit to congratulate them. The Gulbenkian prize is a hotly contested one, so to win it is a fantastic achievement, both for Big Pit and for Blaenavon. Big Pit provides employment, benefits the local economy and reminds us of our heritage – something that is especially important to me, as my father was a coal miner. I am proud to be associated with what is a fantastic museum and a first class attraction for visitors to my constituency.”

Lynne Neagle AM added: “I am submitting a Statement of Opinion to the Assembly congratulating Big Pit on its success. I can recommend it as and enjoyable and educational experience and a vital part of our Valleys heritage. It has gained an excellent and deserved reputation and I hope that this award will further bring it to the attention of as many people as possible.”
