11th July is Respect for Shopworkers day
Torfaen MP Paul Murphy has spoken in support of USDAW's Respect for Shopworkers Day, 11th July 2007.
The day is part of Union USDAW's 'Freedom from Fear' campaign, which seeks to prevent violence, threats an abuse against shopworkers.
After signing a House of Commons motion in support of the initiative, Paul Murphy said: "It is unacceptable for anyone to face violence or abuse when they are trying to do their job. That's why I support USDAW's campaign."
"I am pleased to see that recent figures show a significant fall in reported incidents, but the number of attacks is still too high. As well as USDAW's efforts to protect shopworkers, I am supportive of efforts by Councils and the Police to crack down on those who behave in such an unacceptable way."
