Murphy visits Neighbourhood Policing Team

Paul Murphy has paid a visit to Cwmbran Police Station to meet Cwmbran's Neighbourhood Policing Team.

After visiting the station and talking to Officers, Paul Murphy said: "I was impressed. The Officers I met showed great enthusiasm and commitment towards the principle of neighbourhood policing. Neighbourhood policing can play a huge part in building safer communities, by providing a visible local police presence and giving the public an accessible point of contact."

He added: "I learned how meetings have been held and groups have been formed to enable the Police to find out more about local people's priorities for policing in their area."

"Wards have been assigned named officers, so that local people have a named and familiar point of contact. This has been of great help to me in dealing with constituents' casework. It will also be an effective way of providing a link between local communities and the police. It struck me that the officers were knowledgeable about their areas and were totally commitmed to tackling crime and making their wards better places in which to live."

"I supported measures to help Police Forces set up and build on neighbourhood policing schemes. Gwent Police have taken full advantage of this, and I am confident that our local communities will be safer and stronger as a result."
