School visits to Westminster
A wide variety of local groups have taken the
opportunity to visit Westminster for a tour.
Dear Head Teacher,
Over the last few years, a wide variety of local groups have taken the
opportunity to visit Westminster for a tour of the Palace of Westminster.
I therefore write to ask whether you would be interested in taking a
group of students to visit the Palace of Westminster. Tours sponsored
by MPs are free. They are an excellent opportunity to visit and learn
about the history of the Palace, the House of Commons, House of Lords
and related parts of our national history. Tours usually include the
floor of the Houses of Commons and Parliament. Almost all of the route
is accessible to wheelchair users.
Tour guides are experienced in giving tours to all age groups. Tours
that I have sponsored have included year 4 pupils visiting London, students
looking into political involvement in PSE classes or GCSE, sixth form
and college students taking history or politics-related courses. Many
groups have combined this with a day out in London, visiting museums,
shops or other attractions before or after their tour.
I have met many of the groups myself to talk about what they have seen,
and am happy to arrange question and answer sessions for groups after
tours if requested.
If you are interested in planning a visit, please call my office on
01495 750078 and speak to Anthony Hunt. Please be aware that tour slots
book up well in advance.
Yours sincerely,
Paul Murphy MP
PS. Other local groups are also welcome to go on a tour. Guides adapt
the tours well for adult groups. I’ve met with pensioners groups, sports
teams and social clubs around in the past after they’ve had a tour.
