Victoria Primary Wins Award

Paul Murphy today attended the presentation of the ‘Made IT Happen’ award to Victoria Primary School in Abersychan.

Pupils and staff from the school were in Parliament to receive the award, along with the £1,000 prize, from the Speaker of the House of Commons.

The school was rewarded for a project where pupils wrote, produced and edited their own films, before selling them to parents to raise money for more equipment. Pupils ran the projects from start to finish as ‘mini-companies’, giving them an insight into the world of work, as well as experience using technology.

Speaking after the award ceremony, Paul Murphy MP said: “This is a well-deserved award for the pupils and staff at Victoria Primary School. It’s inspiring to see what young people can do when given the inspiration and an opportunity to be creative, as well as the chance to use modern echnology. Projects like this help them acquire useful skills in an interesting way. I am extremely proud that it is a local school that has received this recognition.”

Over 170 Primary Schools across the UK registered for the 2007 competition, with twelve winners being selected – one each for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and one for each of the nine English regions.
