Blaenavon wins World Heritage Award

Blaenavon’s new World Heritage Centre has won a prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects Award.

Speaking after presenting the Awards at a ceremony in Blaenavon, local MP Paul Murphy said: “This award is great news – a part of the continuing success story of World Heritage in Blaenavon.”

“The Big Pit National Mining Museum and Blaenavon Ironworks are recognised far and wide as great places to visit and learn about the history of our communities. There's also the famous Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway, and the improvements to the Broad Street area are also impressive. Now this fantastic centre brings together the World Heritage experience and the story of Blanavon’s past in a hugely interesting way.”

After speaking at a Forum for Councils with World Heritage sites, Paul Murphy added: “As the local MP, I will continue to encourage people to visit Blaenavon, through the All-Party Parliamentary Group on World Heritage and beyond.”
