Congratulations Barack!

I would like to congratulate Barack Obama on becoming President of the United States of America this morning.

His victory is a welcome one, and a moment of great significance for the United States and for the world.

In my role in Northern Ireland as Government Vice-Chair the British American Parliamentary Group, I have worked with many American politicians and understand the enormous contribution they can make to the world. I am confident that Obama, with the hope that he brings and his understanding of the aspirations of ordinary people, will make a great President, and I look forward to our Government working with him to face our common challenges.
