MP encouraged by Coleg Gwent announcement but seeks further action

Paul Murphy MP said: “I am encouraged by today’s news that existing A-Level students will be able to continue their studies in the Pontypool Campus, it represents a positive step forward in safeguarding the future of the college.

“However, I am still troubled at the lack of medium-term provision for A-Level students at the north of our Valley and I will continue to have discussions with Howard Burton to propose solutions to the matter.”

Since the initial proposals to close the college were announced last month, Mr Murphy has met with the Education Minister on four occasions, had detailed discussions with principal Howard Burton, and met staff and students from the college.
