MP Voices Support for Holocaust Memorial Day
Torfaen MP Paul Murphy has today pledged his support for Holocaust Memorial Day.
The event marks an international day of remembrance for the victims of the Holocaust, taking place annually tomorrow, on the 27 January, to commemorate the anniversary of the date of the liberation of Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Mr Murphy is urging local people to raise awareness of the day; “Whilst this event is a tremendously important opportunity to reflect upon the horrendous loss of life, it is also a celebration of the determination and resolve of those who take a stand against prejudice.
“The theme of this year is to Stand Up to Hatred, a time I believe to celebrate diversity, build understanding, and unite us to consider how we can make our communities safer and stronger.”
“Last year’s events brought people together from Wrexham to Llanwern through prayers, song, art and drama and I encourage people to mark it with similar passion this year.”
