Murphy: Labour has the ideas and vision that Britain needs

Paul Murphy today praised the Prime Minister for his speech which outlined the clear choices between the parties in the next General Election.

The MP for Torfaen spoke following Gordon Brown’s address to the Brighton Party Conference where he set forth the Labour vision for the next election.

Paul Murphy said: “The vision set out today was bold and progressive, built on fairness and hope.

“The choice is clear. Between a party of action and one who believes in inaction, a party with great experience and one with none. Labour make changes that benefit the hard working majority, not the privileged few.

“The Tories have tried to conceal their policies but the economic crisis forced them to make a call. And they got it wrong. On northern rock, jobs and spending and mortgage support. Their priority is to cut inheritance tax, scrap cancer targets and cut the home office budget.”

Gordon Brown said:

“And so when our opponents talk of change, ask yourself. Is that change that will benefit my family, or only a privileged few?

“Listen to what they say- but more importantly demand to know what they would do.

“And so I say to the British people the election to come will not be about my future – it’s about your future. Your job. Your home. Your children's school. Your hospital. Your community. Your country.”

“Since 1997 Labour has given this country back its future. And we are not done yet.”
