Murphy Promotes Home Heat Helpline

As the cold weather continues across Wales, Torfaen MP Paul Murphy is urging local residents to call the free Home Heat Helpline (0800 336699) for advice about keeping warm and cutting costs.

Paul Murphy said: “The cold weather can be a worrying time, especially for older people trying to stay warm or people struggling to pay energy bills. That’s why it’s a good time to get advice from the free Home Heat Helpline. Research suggests that nearly 5,000 households in Torfaen are missing out on savings of up to £250 each year on their energy bills.”

“Grants are available to help with the costs of things like loft and wall insulation, which can make a big difference to energy bills. There’s also advice available on which tariffs offer the best savings.”

“So I’d urge anyone concerned about how to stay warm in this cold weather, or looking to cut their heating bills, to call the free helpline on 0800 336699 for advice. You can also call on behalf of a relative, neighbour or friend who you think might find the information useful.”

The freezing conditions have led to a 23% rise in the number of people calling the helpline. Home Heat Helpline spokesperson, Christine McGourty says:

“The increase in calls to the Helpline indicates that households in Torfaen and across the UK are suffering as a result of the extreme weather conditions – but it is positive that people are reaching out for help.”
